What are the DietCodes and how do they work?

Simply put, a DietCode is a guide to the right mix of macronutrients likely to lead to more and faster weight loss for you, personally.

To determine the DietCodes, we entered the genetic variations from five core genes and their respective predicted influential ratings, into our proprietary algorithm. From there, six core diets, termed “DietCodes,” emerged: High-Fat, Low-Fat, High-Protein, Moderate-Protein, High-Carb and Balanced. For some genetic variation patterns, the algorithm also indicated that certain individuals may attain additional weight loss benefit from a secondary diet that complements their primary diet. For example, someone’s genetic variations may indicate that he or she would achieve the most weight loss following a Low-Fat diet, but he or she may attain some additional benefit if a High-Protein diet is also incorporated (i.e. Low-Fat, High-Protein DietCode).

High Fat Diet DietCode 01:
High-Fat

The High-Fat DietCode is recommended for people who have genetic variations that suggest they may see the most weight loss when following a diet high in fat. The High-Fat DietCode is a diet rich in healthy and essential fats and emphasizes eating foods like salmon, avocados, almonds, walnuts, flaxseeds and olive oil, to name a few.

Some genetic variants may yield additional weight loss benefits when a moderate-protein or high-carb complement is added to the core High-Fat DietCode.

Low Fat Diet DietCode 02:
Low-Fat

The Low-Fat DietCode is for people who have genetic variations that suggest they will achieve the most weight loss when following a diet low in fat. The Low-Fat DietCode is a diet full of nutritious, low-fat foods like berries, vegetables, most beans, white fish, chicken breast and the lower-fat versions of nutritious foods like yogurts.

Some genetic variants may yield additional weight loss benefits when a moderate-protein, high-protein or high-carb complement is added to the core Low-Fat DietCode.

High Protein Diet DietCode 03:
High-Protein

The High-Protein DietCode is best for folks who have genetic variations that suggest they’ll lose the most weight when following a diet high in protein. The High-Protein DietCode is a diet full of nutrient-rich, protein-packed foods including fish, poultry, yogurt and legumes.

Some genetic variants may yield additional weight loss benefits when a low-fat, high-fat or high-carb complement is added to the core High-Protein DietCode.

Moderate Protein Diet DietCode 04:
Moderate-Protein

The Moderate-Protein DietCode is ideal for those whose genetic variations suggest they’ll drop the pounds by following a moderate, not high, protein diet. This DietCode emphasizes a "plant-based" diet including plant-based proteins (e.g. legumes, nuts, seeds and certain whole grains) in place of red meats or poultry to help keep your protein intake in check.

High Carb Diet DietCode 05:
High-Carb

The High-Carb DietCode suits the people with genetic variations that suggest they’ll have greater dieting success when eating high fibrous carbs including minimally-processed or unprocessed whole grains such as oats, couscous, wild rice and quinoa, as well as fruits, beans and select vegetables.

Some genetic variants may yield additional weight loss benefits when a moderate-protein, low-fat or high-fat complement is added to the core High-Carb DietCode.

Balanced Diet DietCode 06:
Balanced

The Balanced DietCode is optimal for people whose gene variations indicate that none of the macronutrients (fat, carb and protein) pose a weight loss advantage over the others; thus, a healthful, balanced diet is recommended. The Balanced DietCode emphasizes a diet moderate in protein, fat and carbs. Most nutrient-rich foods fall into this category including fruits, vegetables, whole grains and lean dairy and protein.

Once you’ve submitted your DNA sample to one of these services and your sample has been processed, they will make your DNA file (raw genetic data) available for download from their websites. After you download the file, you can upload it to your DietCypher account.
